Barbara Thompson writes in African Ceramics: A Different Perspective that the Zigua, as well as their neighbors, associated “the raw material of clay” and the “form of earthen vessels” with ideologies about creation and matters of life and death; therefore, ceramic forms are “usually rendered with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic features.” Ex Allan Stone.
