Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
This is a diviner’s figure or altar object, used in spiritual practices for healing and protective purposes. A diviner or spiritual leader would endow such figures with magicalia and other substances to consecrate the object, hence the receptacle atop the figure’s head, where perhaps libations or a small pot were placed during the ritual process. These diviner’s figures are known as altar objects, for they were placed on the shrine of a domicile, granary or other space. Note this female figure’s geometric ear shape and the angular carving of the body. $175
