Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Pokot headrests with pass-through, curvilinear risers connecting a round base to a round seat are a post-colonial development. Collections assembled before 1970 by field collectors like David Light lack examples of this style. That lack does not mean they did not exist, but gives us some indication, at the very least, that the style was not prevalent at the time and certainly not found in a state of wear and use that would have made them, in that moment, worthy of harvesting. Nevertheless, the patination and clear signs of wear indicate that this seat saw decades of service in situ. $375
