Unusual Afar Headrest
While most Afar headrests are of a relatively light, soft wood, this example is of a harder and heavier material. On the sides of its supports are carved motifs not normally seen in Afar headrests that are reminiscent of the side panels of Somali headrests. The pattern on the side is an interlocking motif that suggests weaving or possibly basketry.
