Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
An iron-filled woven fiber fetish from the Toma people of Guinea. The bundle, with iron bars on the inside, is sheathed in a woven homespun cotton sheath. Knots in the cattle tail top mark ritual use. Such fetishes were and still are kept at home and close at hand, secreted in bedrooms and under beds regardless of the owners’s avowed faith. They were employed to heal and protect.
