Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Edan ogboni are regalia, typically in pairs, maintained by Ogboni practitioners as emblems of cult membership. Among believers they are revered as the physical form of the god Edan. Initiation into Ogboni involves being awarded edan. With possession comes the responsibility and expectation of secrecy from all cult members; the staff remains in the member’s possession till death. When not in use, the staff is stored in the inner corners of the member’s home (away from public view) and is always kept highly polished.
