Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
An exceptional Somali single-pillar headrest with a ridge dividing the circumference of the pedestal, a geometric design on the bottom of the base, a concave top of the base, and a shaft that is slightly narrower in the middle. The underside of the cradle has a longitudinal central ridge that splits as it approaches the shaft. At the ends of the cradle’s underside, the ridge terminates in concave lozenges. Meanwhile, the top of the cradle has a concentric, rectilinear incised motif. A carry cord of indigenously woven cotton is attached to the neck and terminates in a tassel.
