Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Small, intact vessels dating back centuries are found at numerous sites across the length of the Middle Niger Valley. They likely served as vessels for beverages offered at funerary and other ceremonial rites. This example comes from the estate of the late Joseph Knopfelmacher who acquired his collection of Malian terracottas before 1988. Burnished, red finish for the pot’s upper third; textured surface from just north of its equator to its southern pole. Pot ring not included. $175
