Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Wooden snuff container from the Shona people of Zimbabwe. Snuff containers were personal objects which would have belonged to an individual, hence the loop on the side of the container, called a lug, which allows the bottle to be carried around or worn on a lanyard. However, this container is lacking a lug, meaning it likely fell off due to significant usage and handling. Indigenous fiber cord is wound around the container’s wooden top.
