Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
This striking mask was exported from Nigeria during the Biafran War in the late 1960s. This mask formerly had a high degree of sooty accumulation and oxidation of the original, traditionally applied paint. A recent effort at restoring the historic surface has revealed underlying details that were previously obscured, including the blackened lips and tip of the nose, among others. Mounted on a late ’60s vintage Peter Sinclair base.
