Neolithic Stone Disk with Large Hole
Stone disks of various diameters, thicknesses and densities have been found at sites known to Tuareg inhabitants of Niger’s Sahara for centuries. It was only in relatively recent times that they discovered there was a market for them. This particular example bears a hole larger than that of typical Ténéré disks, but far narrower than most Ténéré bracelets. So, what is it? A ritual object? A discoidal mace head? An oversized pendant? From the estate collection of Joseph Knopfelmacher. Mounted on a custom base. $395
