Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
The Kuba carved and utilized a broad array of wooden boxes: crescent-shaped tukula powder storage containers, skeuomorphic basket- or pottery-form vessels, and other deeply engraved, multipurpose boxes taking on various forms and shapes. One such kind of these Kuba carvings is the razor box, used for carrying the tools used in facial scarification rites. This is an old box, its patina showing signs of use, with traces of tukula cosmetic powder on the wood of the interior.
