Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Terracotta pot from Nigeria’s Cross River region. The piece has a long and thin neck indicating it was used for serving palm wine. The decorative elements reference traditional woven chord slings, once used for carrying such vessels from one location to another. According to Sylvia Leith-Ross in Nigerian Pottery, this particular style of vessel was no longer made by Igbo potters by the 1960s. Ex collection Jack Faxon
