Igbo Alusi Figure
Female shrine figure with body scarification and layers of pigment and sacrificial encrustation. The hands are positioned to accept offerings. Alusi figures (deity figures) honor certain spirits worshiped in the Igbo religion. Ex Leonard Kahan, 1980s; ex collection Herb Levine, Manhattan.
