Highly Eroded Tellem Headrest
Tellem headrest with four feet. The level of erosion present is the result of weathering and age. According to the Met, “What little is known of Tellem society is based on the contents of remote chambers of Bandiagara necropoli, or collective burial sites.” The dead were buried “along with precious possessions and agricultural reserves.” Such “intimate possessions that accompanied their owners into the afterlife include headrests and stools.”
