Ex estate collection Thomas G. B. Wheelock, New York and Tennessee. Wheelock was devoted to the art of Burkina Faso since his first visit in 1972. In his lifetime Wheelock acquired scores of Burkina flutes in a range of sizes and forms. This example is one of the older and more unusual flutes. Its body is wrapped in animal skin tied in place at intervals with lengths of fine hide cord. Mounted on a custom base.
