Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Ritual fans were used in processions honoring the deity, or Orisha, Oshun. The metaphor of the fan is that Oshun, being a ‘cool’ Orisha — as opposed to hot and temperamental Orishas like Shango and Ogun — is capable of cooling and soothing her devotees. This is a ritual fan made of hide and adorned with cowrie shells. Made to be impressive.
