Collected by Quaker missionaries in Kenya in the 1920’s, and deaccessioned by a Midwest missionary museum in 2009 this collar dates to the turn of the century, if not earlier. Brass would ultimately replace iron as the preferred metal for adornment by 1960 aluminum replaced brass. Today it is hard to find brass or copper adornments even in remote areas of the country. This collar features both iron wire and European factory made watch chain both common trade goods from the early days of British colonization of East Africa. 7″ diameter, provided with a base.
