Mossi Doll with a Half-Moon Crest

An unpublished doll from the estate collection of Thomas G. B. Wheelock. With its striking semicircular crest and angular breasts, this doll closely relates to three examples published in Wheelock’s Land of the Flying Masks: Art and Culture in Burkina Faso. All three examples are said to possibly be from the Saponé region based on their similarity to one in the C.M. Stanley collection.
