Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Ritually performed Chamba mask known as a Nam Gbalang from northeastern Nigeria. The mouth of the animal is more hippopotamus-like and therefore represents a fusion mask as opposed to a buffalo representation. There are traces of writing on the mask’s surface. This object was stored in a Manhattan warehouse sealed in a box from June 1974 until March 2019.
