Cat-Whiskered Mumuye Figure
Kaolin was often used to whiten the eyes and facial engravings of Mumuye figures. This highlights the fully featured face of the figure, such as this male here. The cat-whiskered appearance of his facial scarification is a common stylistic trait in Mumuye art. Traces of red ochre indicate this figure was likely the male counterpart of a pair, as explained in Central Nigeria Unmasked.
