Brass-Covered Grassfields Mask
Prestigious Grassfields mask featuring a fiber cap with cowrie shells and tassel. A similar example can be found on page 171 of The Art of Cameroon by Tamara Northern. Northern writes that these masks “dance at death celebrations and at an annual harvest dance in praise of the ancestors. [The] male mask with representation of a prestige cap symbolizes the founding ancestor of the royal lineage.”
