Bobo Fetish Couple
This pair come from the estate collection of Thomas G. B. Wheelock, author of Land of the Flying Masks: Art & Culture in Burkina Faso. Tom maintained good relations with collectors and dealers in his native New York as well as in Europe and Burkina Faso, where he had lived on and off in the 1970s while collecting traditional art and artifacts with his then wife, Robin. During his lifetime, Tom accumulated a vast amount of Burkina material, including masks, figures, furniture, pottery, castings and textiles. This beautiful little pair of cubistic statuettes sit on bases I made for Tom in the 1990s.
