Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Unusual and quite rare, this akuaba stylistically differs from other Fante akuabas with its more humanlike form. As Steven van de Raadt and Daniel Mato write in Aspects: Akan Cultures in Ghana, “Fante akuaba are known by their vertical flat heads in opposition to other Akan round headed figures.” Like other Fante akuabas, however, this work is embellished with jewelry and features facial designs.
