Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
The Nyangatom are members of the Ateker or Karamojong ethnolinguistic cluster. The grouping includes the Turkana, Toposa, Karamojong, and Jie ethnic groups. Headrest forms vary subtly between the groups, although some are close enough to be seen as variations more intrinsic to the hand of the carver more than any formal adherence to a style. Both sides of this tall headrest carry engraved images of animals: on one side are two giraffes, on the other is a steer. Atypically, the top of the headrest carries a heavily worked series of abstract designs. $400
