Makonde Baboon Lipico
A 1970s vintage lipico. Chimpanzees are not endemic to historical Makonde territory. The nearest populations are in western Tanzania, halfway up the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, a long way away. Most likely, the simian representation seen in Makonde masks reference the yellow baboon. This species is found in large troops across the region.
