Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
Mipico (pl. of lipico) masks are used in performances that accompany coming of age ceremonies, such as the circumcision of young boys. Mipico masks are worn as part of a masquerade of various theatrical characters, such as soldiers, women, foreigners, and local personalities. This example is a somewhat stylized but realistic rendering of a man in Western dress from the coastal area. Circa 1960s.
