Makonde Lipico Mask with Red Eyes
Mipico (pl. of lipico) masks are used in performances that accompany coming of age ceremonies, such as the circumcision of young boys. Mipico masks are worn as part of a masquerade of various theatrical characters, such as soldiers, women, foreigners, and local personalities. This is a traditional piece from the Lipico dance performance tradition featuring human hair.
