Authentic Art and Ethnographic Objects From Africa / Custom Mounting Services
The Dinka of South Sudan are a cattle-herding people, which explains why this headrest has what appears to be a carved udder underneath its saddle. This was a portable piece of furniture; the holes at either end are for a carrying strap. African stools, and larger headrests, are typically three-legged because on uneven natural ground and earthen floors, three legs will always sit steady, whereas four legs will rock.
