Lobi Fetish with Sacrificial Residue
Wooden fetish figure from the Lobi of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. This female fetish bears significant encrustation on the patina, the result of a diviner pouring libations and other magical substances onto the object in a ritual process meant to endow the fetish with healing and protective powers. The encrustation makes this wonderful carving even more of a standout.
