Idoma Headcrest

Teeth-baring headcrest with black pigment outlining the lips, ears, geometrically-carved eyebrows and cheek and forehead scarification of the figure. The eyes are painted an orange-red pigment and encircled in black. The elaborate coiffure suggests femininity, though perhaps the black lines extending on either side from the temple to the lips represent facial hair. From the Idoma people of western Nigeria.
